The 2nd SuperAIRE Challenge Workshop was held at the University of Birmingham on Thursday 11th September 2025, drawing together researchers, industry professionals, and policy voices to explore the evolving relationship between Artificial Intelligence and Renewable Energy.
The day opened with an introduction to the SuperAIRE network, setting the stage for a programme of stimulating talks and discussions. Keynote sessions explored themes ranging from AI-driven optimisation and real-time decision-making in sensing technologies, to the energy costs of hyperscale data centres, and future horizons for remote autonomous systems in the energy sector. These talks highlighted both the opportunities AI offers to renewable energy and the crucial perspective of how renewable energy must underpin and enable the future of AI.
Interactive sessions in the afternoon provided space for participants to shape the direction of SuperAIRE’s research themes, building on the insights shared throughout the day.
The workshop concluded with a look ahead to the next steps for the network, emphasising collaboration across disciplines and sectors.
We are grateful to our speakers for their expert contributions and to all attendees for their valuable input in helping shape the future of SuperAIRE.
